During the week the inspectors will visit random locations across the base, and evaluate Team Edwards users who have access to our DOD unclassified and classified networks.
Below are some reminders on required security practices:
· Remove CAC/ID cards every time you leave your computer
· For keypad entries, do not allow anyone nearby to view your code or tailgate you into the secure facility
· Digitally sign ALL emails, encrypt emails with FOUO and PII
· Do not allow passwords/PINs, etc., to remain in plain view
· Reboot at the end of the duty day and keep your government computer powered on to allow patching of vulnerabilities
· Clean desk policy for all FOUO, PII and classified documents
· Do not visit untrusted websites or click on links from unknown senders
· Know your unit Information Assurance Officer
· Keep Edwards AFB Network Incident Reporting Aid (EAFBVA 33-200) readily available at your computer, the document can be found here:
The CCRI is a base-wide inspection, not only for the 412th Communications Squadron and Wing Information Assurance office. Therefore, it is imperative that all users of the base network comply with set procedures.In the future, the 412th CS will implement procedures that will better prepare Edwards AFB for the inspection and ultimately better secure the 412th Test Wing network.
This will include:
· Implementation of Port Authentication - only AF approved devices on the network
· 24/7 vulnerability patching
· System Reboot every 72 hours (or the user can opt to restart)
· Disabling SIPRNet computers that have missed several scanning windows
The upcoming inspection will be a direct reflection of Edwards AFB's cyber security posture. All measures taken will ensure that our network is highly fortified against our adversaries that want to steal our mission data or worse. Almost everyone's daily mission is reliant on cyber capabilities or information technology, so it is imperative we take measures to constantly defend against cyber threats.
