Memories Of Light And Darkness
Vestiges of Light and Darkness are two new consumable types in Destiny 2: The Final Shape, acting as a currency for unlocking certain Prismatic Fragments. Finding these vestiges can prove tricky starting out, however, as the game offers no guidance on acquiring them.

Ergo Sum is one of the strongest Swords in Destiny 2. Here's how to get it.
The good news is that both vestige types are fairly easy to find. Complete the campaign, finish some of Micah-10's quests, and you'll be able to stock up on both Light and Dark vestiges with little issue, both of which are needed to craft Memories of Light and Dark to pinpont the exact location of five Prismatic Fragment chests.
What Are Memory Vestiges?
Memory Vestiges are inventory consumables that are required to forge Memories of Light or Darkness. These memories are then used to locate certain Prismatic Fragment chests within the Pale Heart. Five Prismatic Fragments are locked behind Memory Vestiges, so it's important to collect these vestiges whenever possible.
Vestiges come in two forms:
- Memory Vestige: Darkness – Found in corrupted chests within the Pale Heart.
- Used to forge Memories of Darkness.
- Memory Vestige: Light – Found by defeating enemies within cyst caves, areas unlocked through Micah-10's "Alone in the Dark" quest chain.
- Used to forge Memories of Light.
How To Get Vestiges Of Light
You can earn Vestiges of Light by defeating enemies within cyst dungeons in the Pale Heart destination. You unlock these cyst areas by completing the "Alone in the Dark" quests from Micah-10 in the Lost City. If you don't have access to this quest, you need to complete the "Memories" series of quests first, available upon completing the Final Shape campaign.
From our experience, you get roughly five to seven Vestiges of Light from each cyst dungeon, which will create one Memory of Light with a couple vestiges to spare. We personally didn't find any Vestiges of Light until we cleared the Aerial Ace Cyst in The Transgression. This area is unlocked upon completing the third variant of "Alone in the Dark."

How To Get Vestiges Of Darkness
Vestiges of Darkness are a reward for cleansing corrupted chests in the Pale Heart. While out on patrol, keep an eye out for pyramid chests covered in Darkness brambles. If you walk up to the chest and interact with it, a timed challenge will begin. You must complete the challenge within 90 seconds to cleanse the chest. Failure just means you need to restart the challenge again.
The challenge you receive will depend on the patrol zone and the verb attached to the chest—stitching, expunging, offering, etc. These are effectively timed patrols. You might need to kill enemies while standing in Light pools, complete a Sparrow race, or escort a bramble ball to a plate. Once you've finished the challenge, open the newly-cleansed chest to claim your Vestige of Darkness.
Memories Of Light And Darkness
Collecting five of the same vestige type will forge a memory. The memory is the same type as the vestiges used (Light or Darkness). This is done automatically, so you don't need to do anything. You can view any created memories in your inventory menu, same as your vestiges.
There are five memories in the Pale Heart, two Dark and three Light. Each memory will mark a Prismatic chest on your map. Find the chest, and you'll unlock a new Prismatic Fragment. Memories are consumed once the chest is opened. Opening the same chest again with a duplicate memory will only yield Ghost reputation.
