Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers are on a torrid pace, and the PAdres are no slouches themselves. With inconsistent pitchers on the mound, our MLB picks are backing fireworks Saturday night.

The San Diego Padres face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in MLB action on Saturday night. The Dodgers are the World Series favorites and are atop the NL West with a 10-6 record, but don't sleep on the Friars, who also have a stacked lineup.
This is the second contest in a three-game set at Dodger Stadium, with the Padres winning 8-7 last night. MLB odds have the Dodgers as -190 favorites for today, with the Over/Under at 9. Here are my best free MLB picks and Padres vs. Dodgers predictions on April 13.

My best bet
Over 9 (-112 at Pinnacle)
My analysis
These teams combined for 15 runs last night, and there's no reason not to expect another high-scoring contest. The Los Angeles Dodgers have the scariest lineup in baseball, with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernandez all mashing. They're third in the majors with an OPS of .802, with that number ticking up to .863 at home.
The San Diego Padres aren't far behind them, boasting an OPS of .765. San Diego's lineup might not be quite as terrifying top-to-bottom as the Dodgers, but the Padres are still stacked with All-Star sluggers like Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr.
The advanced analytics also indicate how well these teams make contact, with the Dodgers second in the majors in barrel rate and the Padres fifth. Both sides are also sending inexperienced and largely ineffective pitchers to the mound tonight in Matt Waldron and Gavin Stone.
San Diego's Waldron had a 4.36 ERA in 41.1 innings as a rookie last year. He's is coming off a strong outing, but he was roughed up in his first start of the year and sits in the bottom 30th percentile in hard-hit rate, barrel rate, and average exit velocity.
Stone allowed seven hits and three runs across five innings in his season debut before surrendering five runs in three innings versus the Cubs last Sunday. He pitched to a 9.00 ERA in 31 innings as a rookie last year, which included an ugly start against the Padres in September when he gave up seven runs in 5.1 innings.

Padres vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)
Over 9.5
Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 total bases
Manny Machado Over 1.5 total bases
+550 at bet365
Ohtani has fit in seamlessly with his new team and leads the majors with 48 total bases. The two-time AL MVP has been red-hot, going 16-35 at the plate with four homers and seven doubles in his last eight games. The left-handed slugger also has a history of excelling with the platoon advantage, slugging .701 against righties like Waldrom last year.
Machado is 5-13 at the plate over his last three games and drilled a homer last night. The six-time All-Star is coming off a bit of a down year, but still finished with 30 dingers in 138 games.
To be fair, most of his struggles were at home in pitcher-friendly Petco Park, and he slugged .489 on the road, which included a game in L.A. where he hit two homers off Stone. Stone's favorite pitch is the changeup, and Machado had a .347 BA against changeups last year while slugging .730 against that offering in 2022.
