Overview[]

The mission starts the next day after The Childhood Friend.

The mission has to be completed on the day it starts.

Conduct[]

On the second morning of her trip to Sandrock, Nia visits the player's workshop to ask them to come to the Moisture Farm with her:

Morning Player! Yawn, I slept so well at the Blue Moon! I had a really great dream, too. Decided to come pick you up myself this morning! Teehee, feels like when we were kids, and I'd come get you for school.
Hey, let me see your workshop! What's it like?

The camera pans around the player's workshop.

Not bad, not bad! Did you build these machines yourself? And wow, that Assembly Station is way bigger than the one you had back home!
Hey, I've an idea! You've been away so long, everyone's forgotten what you look like already! Let's take a photo together to show the folks in Highwind!
  • Okay!
  • I'm not very photogenic...
→Okay!
Yeah! Alright don't pull any stupid faces though, okay? I want to keep it with me.
→I'm not very photogenic...
You're too shy to take a photo with me? Don't worry, you know I've seen all those photos of you when you were young, pulling those dumb faces! Besides, I want to keep it with me, as a reminder...
Let's do a cool pose! Say cheese!

The player enters the photo mode interface where they have to take a picture of them together with Nia and save it to their album to proceed.

Not bad, not bad! It's actually a pretty good shot. When I get back I'll show it to your parents. I'm sure they'll be proud to see your workshop.
Alright I'm gonna tell you our plan for today, okay? That way you won't get worried when you can't find me.
I'm visiting the Moisture Farm later. You know, it's actually really famous. Professor Luo has even mentioned it in class before. I think I might be able to learn a thing or two! If... you're not busy, maybe you can come with me?
  • Okay! Let's go!
  • Sorry, I'm kind of busy...
→Okay! Let's go!
Alright! I'm gonna head over there now, when you're done with your busywork, come find me, 'kay? I want to show you all the cool botany stuff that I've learned at school.
→Sorry, I'm kind of busy...
Ah... kinda typical, huh. I came all the way here, and you don't have the time.
...I know you guys have a lot to do, commissons, collecting materials, relics and whatever.
Well, when you're done, just come meet me at the Moisture Farm, okay? I'll be there for a while. If you come, I can show you some of the things I learned at school!
I'm gonna head there now. See you later!

The mission is added to the player's log regardless of their answer.

Go to the Moisture Farm[]

Nia isn't really familiar with Sandrock. It's probably best if you go with her to the Moisture Farm.Go to the Moisture Farm

When the player enters the Moisture Farm, they find Nia talking with Zeke.

Besides Wheat, we also have Pomato. Look, they're over there. In the beginning, we really struggled with Sandhoppers. It took a few generations to breed something that could withstand them.
That really is a long process... we were also cultivating Pomatos in one of our experimental greenhouses last semester. I had the highest yield of Tomatos. But the Potatoes it produced... it must have had something to do with the soil.

They notice the player.

Hello, Player. I was just talking to your friend here.
Ah, you're here, Player! Mister Zeke was just showing me around the Moisture Farm. He said you repaired the Hydrogel!
Oh, by the way, Mister Zeke, Professor Luo said that if you want to grow bigger and juicier Tomatos, you need to control the irrigation temperature. If the temperature gets too low, it's not conducive to proper absorbtion of nutrients.
Interesting... I didn't know that. Oh, and just call me Zeke.
Player, I just remembered the little greenhouses you used to make me! I planted some Bananaberries there. They turned out delicious! So, so sweet!
Ah, I'm sorry. My mind likes to jump around a lot. I just say what pops into my head. Player used to call me "goldfish" because of it...
I understand. It's nice to find someone with a similar love of botany.
Player, what about you? Do you like planting here?

The player is given two answers to choose from. If they choose the first option, Nia will give them a short quiz where they will earn relationship points with both Nia and Zeke for each correct answer. If the player chooses the second option, they will not get the quiz.

  • I'm the best farmer in town!
  • I haven't tried it yet...
→I haven't tried it yet...
That's too bad... why don't you give it a shot? When you grow your own food, it really is an amazing feeling.
→I'm the best farmer in town!
Alright, "expert." Since you're so high and mighty, let's do a little test.
First question... which tool is necessary for planting in the desert?
  • A Hoe.
  • A Grid Shovel. Correct answer, +2 relationship
  • A Pickhammer.
  • Erm... your hands?
→A Grid Shovel.
Hmmm, that's right.
Nia(Relationship +2)
Zeke(Relationship +2)
→Incorrect answer.
Erm... that's not right. You use a Grid Shovel to lay the Straw in the field to form a Straw Grid. Then you can sow the seeds.
Next! What kind of produce can't be grown in the desert?
  • Sandrice.
  • Coffee Tea.
  • Lettuce. Correct answer, +2 relationship
  • Sand?
→Coffee Tea or Sandrice.
Wrong! Actually, these are pretty easy to grow here. They're really good for beginners. You can give 'em a shot.
→Lettuce.
That's right. It's really hard to grow Lettuce in Sandrock.
Nia(Relationship +2)
Zeke(Relationship +2)
Lettuce and many other crops need sticky and moist soil. Although most of the Free Cities can grow them, it's a real struggle in Sandrock. But don't give up. I'm sure in the future, breakthroughs will be made, and we'll be enjoying Sandrock Lettuce!
→Sand?
Sand... I mean... sand doesn't "grow" anywhere... but... Argh! Let's move on.

If the player does not get both answers right, Nia says:

Player, didn't you say you were the "best farmer in town?" Don't worry, just keep at it. "Practice makes perfect," eh?

If the player gets both answers right, Nia says:

Oh, I didn't trip you up at all. If I had known, I'd have prepared more difficult questions... You should see the questions on our tests!
But if I'm honest, your answers kinda show that you really do care for your crops. I'm proud of you.

Regardless of the player's test score, she continues:

Planting is actually a super interesting and deep study. Different plants need to be cared for in different ways. I still have a lot to learn myself.
Oh by the way Mis- er... Zeke. I have something I have to ask you. These are the Raspberry Seeds cultivated by our school. The school heard I was coming to Sandrock, and asked me to give these seeds too you.
The teachers are curious about how these seeds will grow in a desert greenhouse. If the it all goes well, maybe you'll be eating Raspberries soon!
Thank you. I'll accept this on behalf of Sandrock.
Player, let's grow this together.

The player is given five packets of Wood Squash Seeds and prompted to plant them into five planters inside the Moisture Farm.

Plant the Wood Squash Seeds[]

Nia brought Raspberry seeds with her to Sandrock. Help her grow them in the Moisture Farm.Plant the Raspberry Seeds
  • Raspberry Seeds(5)

All five Wood Squash Seeds packets need to be planted into the planters inside the Moisture Farm near the entrance. Once the player plants all seeds, Zeke thanks them and leaves to tend to his crops.

Alright, that's all of them. Thank you for your seeds, Nia.
Thank you too, Zeke. I learned a lot today!
Now, you two take care. I need to go take care of some crops.

Nia turns to the player:

That was really great, I learned a lot. I need to go and write a report for school. Gosh, I have so many ideas right now...
When I was hanging out with you, it really felt like I'd been here for years.
If I'm honest, I kind of want to stay a little longer...
  • You're welcome here any time.
  • Mission: Farmin' Moisture (55)Because you'll miss me too much?

The answer the player gives here changes the farewell cutscene in the next mission slightly.

→You're welcome here any time.
Well, yeah... I wish I knew when I could come back...
Mission: Farmin' Moisture (57)Because you'll miss me too much?
No, of course not! Well... maybe a little.
Well. Thanks for coming with me today. I'm not gonna hold you up any longer. I'll see myself around town. I kind of want to see the sights! I'm leaving early tomorrow morning afterall.

This ends the mission.

Post-conduct[]

The next morning the player will be prompted to see Nia off at the station.

Nia meeting Mort[]

After visiting the Moisture Farm with Nia, the player can drop by the Graveyard Shack anytime before the day ends to find Nia talking to Mort.

Excuse me, are you Mister Mort?
Ha! "Mister Mort" was my father, please, just call me Mort.
Ermm... Mort, it's nice to meet you. Before I came here, I'd learned so much about you and Martle. You two are inspiring!
Not only did you build a town in the desert, but you expanded the boundaries of human civilization! Even now, you're still fighting the sandstorms.
You sing my praises too highly, I fear. We were simply young, and stumbled on a beautiful oasis... but times have changed since then. I fear it is no longer the town we once found...
Don't you worry, Mort! Player will help rebuild this town, and in the future loads of people are going to come!
Hah, I hope to see that day...

Zeke's letter[]

If the player has planted all the seeds, they will receive the following letter from Zeke several days after Nia leaves:

Mission: Farmin' Moisture (67)

From: Zeke

Player,

the seeds that Nia gave us have finished growing.

This is the first batch of seeds from the harvest. You can try grow them at home, too.
